And Suddenly Things Change: “Everything that can break is breaking: stock markets, bond markets, the galaxy of derivatives — bets on this and that, which will never be honored. Banks are next. Gold and silver are hanging in there for dear life just now, because they’re actually worth something.”
Biblically Accurate Angels — Christianity’s Undisputed Horror Icons: “In Christianity the most influential angelic hierarchy was proposed by Greek author Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite in his De Coelesti Hierarchia (or, ‘On the Celestial Hierarchy’) sometime around fifth-century CE and contains nine orders and three hierarchies of angels. The higher the classification of angel sits within the hierarchy represents their overall closeness to God.
First Tier | Seraphim | Cherubim | Thrones |
Second Tier | Dominations | Virtues | Powers |
Third Tier | Prinicipalities | Archangels | Angels |
…Seraphim, Cherubim, and Thrones…are terrifying and wonderful and no one talks about them enough.”
Condemning Young Men to Their Fate: “Men are being provoked. There’s no question about it. The defensive, reactionary instincts of males are being triggered constantly through increasing disorder, demographic conflict, and a society that views masculinity as problematic. On top of that, they’re increasingly being given less of a stake in society, no reason to participate in perpetuating the status quo. Probably because there’s not much for them there.”
Dragons: “…fallen angels are still angels after all, and angels were created to be creatures of Truth. I believe they are just fundamentally incapable of uttering words which are technically untrue. Hence the Devil and his minions have always been legalists. The law, with its loopholes and numerous uncharitable interpretations, is the perfect vehicle for lying whilst telling the truth.”
God Gets Into Our Boat: “The redeemer God controls the chaos and drowns the enemy—Pharaoh, the monster of the sea.”
The Diversions of Milton’s Fallen Angels: “The music..is so beautiful, that Hell’s pain and gloom is forgotten; it is as if the angels singing and their ‘thronging’ angel listeners step back into their pre-fallen heavenly life. Milton reminds us in a number of ways that the demons of his poem are still angels, and this interlude of ‘harmony’ is the most vivid of these.”
The Myth and Mystique of Biblical Nephilim: Fallen Angels or Ancient Aliens?: “Semjâzâ was the leader of a group of angels called the Watchers. Watchers were tasked by God to keep an eye on the relatively new human species during the…Antediluvian period prior to the Great Flood. The Book of Enoch describes some Watchers as ‘good’ and others as ‘bad.’ The leader Semjâzâ, being of the bad variety, persuaded 200 fellow Watchers to give into their lust and sleep with the human women…”
War is Not Fought Alone: “…our task is to submit our anarchic instincts to the necessity for calm, lucidity, and patience.”
What Does Elvis Mean to You? “In the final minutes of [This is Elvis], we see Elvis, on stage in Las Vegas, sing the famous so-called ‘Laughing Version’ of Are You Lonesome Tonight? The camera begins with a long shot and does a slow zoom in on Elvis’s face. Elvis is stoned and overweight and by the time he performs the disastrous central monologue, we can see the pure anguish of his performance, the drugged and mortified eyes, the terrible aloneness, the horror of the moment – his vast soul crucified on the cross of his own body as he blunders through the words. It is one of the most traumatic pieces of footage I have ever seen. This is followed by the medley, An American Trilogy. Elvis dies and as the world media reports his death, we hear him sing Dixie over shots of his funeral procession. We see the motorcade, the weeping crowds, the coffin, and the flowers, as the film returns to the Vegas concert and Elvis sings the eternally beautiful All My Trials. To me it is immeasurably moving, Elvis’s head bowed, his extraordinary voice steeped in sorrow – then the band rises, he lifts his head and sings The Battle Hymn of the Republic and Elvis is resurrected, triumphant. It is pure religion and as powerful as anything I have ever seen. The final shot of him, in slow motion, arms outstretched, the angel wings of his silver cape flung wide, shows his exultant ascent into heaven.”
You Are the Enemy: “…the celebration parallax holds that the same fact pattern is either true and glorious or false and scurrilous depending on who states it and, crucially, the perceived intent of the speaker.”
